Trinity Square is a smoke free zone

Trinity Square has used this year’s National No Smoking Day (Wednesday 13thMarch 2019) to launch its smoke free status and discourage both smoking and vaping on its site. It is also helping shoppers and visitors find the support they need to help them quit during an event on the same day.

A survey conducted amongst shoppers and visitors to Trinity Square found that 62% were in favour of the no smoking policy and 61% felt that it should also apply to vaping and not just smoking.

Tony Pickering, Centre Manager, said: “We are proud to be taking this positive action and making Trinity Square a smoke free zone.  It is part of our overall commitment to improve our impact on the environment in 2019.

“We appreciate that it could be seen as controversial to ban both smoking and vaping as vaping is seen as a healthier alternative to cigarettes.  However, we are a family friendly shopping and leisure centre and as such we care about the health and wellbeing of all of our shoppers, visitors and employees. The harm from smoking tobacco and from second hand smoke is well known but as more research is needed into the safety of e-cigarettes, we did not want to discriminate between smoking or vaping.

“We have several businesses at Trinity Square that can help people cut down and quit smoking, so we feel well-placed to implement this policy but also to provide the support which might be needed within the centre.”
