Trinity Square Gateshead supports World Transplant Games

Gateshead shopping and leisure centre Trinity Square is supporting this summer’s World Transplant Games.

Starting on 17 August and running for six days the Games will see participants from 59 countries travel to the North East to compete in 15 sporting events.

Competing athletes and their supporters will be staying in accommodation throughout the region. Trinity Square will be hosting around 400 participants from Great Britain & Northern Ireland, Australia, Hungary, Ireland and Kazakhstan.

Retailers, including Nandos and Subway, at Trinity Square shopping centre will also offer discounts to those with World Transplant Games accreditation passes. The centre has designed a welcome leaflet for participants and will be promoting the Games, in the run up to and, throughout the week.

Tony Pickering, Trinity Square Gateshead Centre Manager, said: “We are delighted to support The World Transplant Games in whatever way we can and to welcome all of the athletes and their supporters to NewcastleGateshead.”

The Games are open to all ages and promote the benefits of transplantation and encourage transplant patients to regain fitness, as well as raising awareness of organ donation and the need to pass on your wishes to those closest to you.

As well as those participating, over 800 volunteers have signed-up to support the Games this summer and will perform a number of roles throughout the region.
