We’ve been recognised for our commitment to providing our customers with outstanding public toilets.
An often forgotten and overlooked asset, toilets are important for everyone and the team here at Trinity Square recognise this. We have recently been awarded National Diamond grade in the prestigious Loo of the Year Awards 2025.
The Awards, established more than 35 years ago, are the culmination of a search to find the best ‘away from home’ washrooms in the UK. Inspectors travel England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic to find the best ‘loos’ across 63 categories and every aspect of these loos are graded.
The facilities at Trinity Square are managed by North East-based cleaning contractor Bettakleen Limited with a team of 12 full and part-time staff, who look after the cleaning of the public areas of the Square, including the public toilets. Many of those staff have worked at the shopping and leisure centre since it opened in May 2013.
We receive regular feedback from the general public about the standard of our public toilets with some saying they are the ‘best in the north east’ and beyond for cleanliness.
Centre Manager Lynn Stainsby, said: “We have always prided ourselves on taking the experience of anyone using our facilities very seriously. We all need to use the ‘loo’ and we all remember it when that ‘visit’ is below par so we have made every effort to ensure that experience is excellent. We are so thrilled the inspectors from the Loo of the Year have rates us so highly.”
