Gateshead will start its official countdown to Christmas when its town centre shopping and leisure complex Trinity Square switches on its Christmas lights tomorrow night.
A host of local acts and performers will entertain the crowds as the event returns to the Square for the first time in two years after last year’s event was held virtually due to the Covid pandemic.
The event programme includes headline act Ricky K from Britain’s Got Talent, Kylie tribute Janie MacKenzie, Trinity’s Got Talent winner Abby Camsell, LED Dance Man and special appearances from Alnwick Garden’s Forgotten Snowman and Gateshead’s Happy Feet Dance School.
Hosting the night will be Mrs Clause and Jingle the Elf to get things off to a festive start.
Trinity Square won a national marketing award for its 2020 Christmas Light Switch On which featured its very own Grinchy fairy-tale. The Gateshead Grinchy has made an appearance again this year in the run up to the event as he tries to ruin the night once again. The public have been voting on whether his antics should be forgiven and if he should be invited to the event. The results will be revealed tomorrow night!
The Trinity Square Christmas Light Switch On event is free to attend. Money raised on the night through raffle tickets and merchandise sales will go to Trinity Square’s nominated charity Tiny Lives. So far Trinity Square has raised over £10,500 for Tiny Lives who support the Special Care Baby Unit at the RVI in Newcastle.
