We visited the newly transformed Anytime Fitness gym, Gateshead to meet with General Manager Gary Topping recently for tour of what can only be described as a total overhaul.

So, what’s new?

Apart from the structural shell of the building, everything inside is completely brand new.

This includes updated external signage, communal areas and changing room upgrades to cutting-edge equipment and dedicated training zones.

Functional fitness and smart equipment

“Fitness trends have shifted significantly toward functional training,” Gary said, “So, movements that mimic real-life activity rather than simply ‘doing cardio’ or ‘lifting weights’. Functional fitness is all about building strength, stability and mobility.”

He went on to explain how Anytime Fitness Trinity Square has adapted its floor layout to centre around this versatile style of exercise, offering dedicated open spaces and high-spec functional gear alongside classic resistance and cardio zones.

The new cardio equipment features large, interactive media screens. Members can easily stream content directly from their phone to the machines during a cardio session.

The club has also installed keyless smart lockers, keeping your belongings secure without needing to carry padlocks or keys around with you.

A state-of-the-art recovery suite

The gym at Trinity Square also has a brand-new, dedicated Recovery Area. Designed to support muscl-+ repair, reduce soreness and accelerate post-workout recovery, this area is a game-changer for anyone training heavy lower body movements or preparing for (or recovering from) events like the Great North Run.

Highlights of the recovery area include:

Dynamic Air Compression massage boots. These specialised leg boots use pulsing compression to flush out fatigue, reduce swelling and boost circulation in your legs. You can choose from 15-, 30-, or 45-minute sessions with adjustable intensity settings, while sitting comfortably in a big recliner.

High-grade massage guns, available for all members to use at no extra charge, helping target tight knots and sore tissues.
