For ten weeks during Autumn and Winter 2016, the North East’s streets, parks and open spaces will become home to over 50 individually designed Snowdog sculptures, painted by both well-known and undiscovered artists and inspired by the animated short film, The Snowman™ and The Snowdog.
We’ve been excited about the Great North Snowdogs for some time now and as the trail draws ever closer we’re delighted to introduce you to Squares our Snowdog, and his maker Deven Burke….
Artist Deven Burke is a public art trail veteran. With 15 trails under his belt since 2013 from Birmingham’s Big Hoot to Sheffield’s Herd of Elephants, it’s fair to say Squares has been in good hands.
Influenced by optical illusions and geometric patters Deven produced a very modern, playful captivating graphic design. When Trinity Square’s center manager Tony saw Squares for the first time it was like love at first sight – he knew the Snowdog was the one for us. Squares is colourful, bright and quite the cheeky Chappy – we’re sure the kids will love him!
For months Deven steadied his hand and went to work on his sixteenth sculpture and we can’t wait for him to come to town on the 19th of September. Now, we can’t show you Square’s just yet, but here’s a sneak peek!
So, this autumn, become a tourist in your own city, download the Great North Snowdogs app and come visit Squares. Whilst you’re here go on an adventure and see some of his friends at Sage Gateshead, Saltwell Park and Gateshead Central Library!
